Un-Hidden Figures
Ms. Lea McGee was one of the young ladies sponsored to attend a Coding/Robotic training last Saturday with Black Girls Code. Ms. Hines, the MBA Next Director confirms, “It is our desire to get more girls to fall in love with the idea that they too can be UnHidden Figures in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math!”
Black Girls CODE is an innovative organization that uses workshops and after school programs to help black girls discover their aptitude for coding. Using computer languages like Scratch and Ruby on Rails, Black Girls Code introduces computer coding lessons to youth in under-represented communities. Black Girls CODE’s ultimate goal is to provide African-American youth with the skills to occupy some of the 1.4 million computing job openings expected to be available in the U.S. by 2020, and to train 1 million girls by 2040.
